Meet the Scene Ball - Melbourne

Join us at Prahran Town Hall as we bring all our dancers together to meet each other. Be introduced to the larger swing community, have a dance and join in on the fun!

This ball is always the highlight of the year and a great opportunity to meet everyone involved in other Swing Patrol classes and the Melbourne scene.   We have a fabulous band planned and many strolls/games to keep you entertained - Shim Sham, Jitterbug Stroll, Big Apple.... make sure to jump in!

This ball is the most loved event on our calender and is dedicated to all our newer dancers.  This is the night that all our dancers come together and welcome you to the Melbourne SP Swing Community.  Everyone who has gone before, knows the nerves of a first ball and the anticipation.  Just relax, take a chill pill and have a great time on the night.  If you’re worried that you do not know many people, remember everyone is in this situation.  With so many new people in the scene, even the dancers of old do not know many people. What a great opportunity to meet new like minded swing lovers.

When you are new to a "Swing Scene", we’ve found that a fun thing to do at huge events is to color code the venues.  It doesn't mean you have to wear a green zoot suit...it just means a "touch of" colour so you can easily find your buddies that you learn with each week!  Everyone has been given a regional colour so you can also get to know your nearest neighbours.

Peninsula- Frankston – PINK
Northern - Brunswick, Northcote & Kew - YELLOW
Bayside - Bentleigh & St Kilda –
GREEN
Inner Melbourne - CBD, West Melbourne and South Melbourne - RED
Richmond/Collingwood -  Bal Pit & Blues - BRIGHT BLUE
Western - Geelong -

6.  Meet the Scene Ball - FAQ
--------------------------------------------

a. Information for Ticket Holders!
If you’ve been super organised and pre-paid your ticket to the ball… well done.  You’re going to have a ball… literally!  Remember, there are no paper tickets for you to collect. I

nstead, your name will be on a special door list. Just walk in, say hi to our friendly door girls and they will cross you off the pre-paid list before you enter the ball.  If you have booked your tickets in a group, then your tickets will be under the name of the person who booked/paid for them. Make sure you know what name your ticket will be under before you turn up, just to avoid any confusion at the door.
Note that pre paid entry does not guarantee a seat or place at a table. It is simply an entry payment.

b. My Shout - Food and Drink at the Ball
Please do not bring any liquid refreshment or food into the event. If you need to eat a full meal beforehand please do so. An extensive bar and small snack menu is available through My Shout on the night.  Waiting time in the queue is a great time to book up the next dances after your thirst is quenched!

c. Table Seating
There will be some tables around the venue but these are not reserved or regarded as permanent seating for anyone throughout the night. They are used to help orientate you to colours and areas in the room where your class-colleagues will be and from there you can dance, grab a chair when you’re arresting or if there is no chair available, sit on someone’s lap and make a new friend. Better still. Get back onto the dance floor!!

d. What Do I Wear?
Many will have planned and made this decision already, but if you need tips the number one thing is to have comfy shoes to dance in.  Many will be dressed up for the night and we encourage this. Swirly skirts, flip dresses, zoot suits, baggy pants, braces and even maybe the odd fedora hat might and an original vintage item might be seen on the night. There will also be lots of people not so dressed up wearing contemporary smart casual clothing. Beware of sore feet the next day..many of those who have done this before bring a change of clothes for later in the night or the after party.
